Why Are You So Dressed Up

When I go to meet a friend to shop, grab a Starbucks or quick lunch I often hear, "why are you so dressed up?!" But what they don't realize is I'm just dressing smart. I'm usually wearing jeans and a tee but I've added the right accessories that pull the casual look together.  And if you're looking for the best v-neck tee that's amazingly soft and perfect, look no further than the Karen V-neck. It's my newest obsession.

Adding a colorful scarf, some fun bangles and a great flat sandal will take your t-shirt and jeans to a whole new level. How do you dress up a simple look?

Black And Blue And A Hair Tutorial

I'm officially over my bangs. It's all or nothing with me. If they aren't straight across, I want nothing to do with these so called "bangs".  Who invented this side shit anyway.  It does nothing for my face.  So, after lots of browsing on hair blogs, I decided the big side braid will be my new signature look.  It's easy, looks chic and gets everything out of my face.  Only downfall is it shows off all my new zits from crossfit sweat.  I can never win.  And don't forget you get 10% off at April M with  my code MYSTYLE10.

On another note, more colored jeans..... Still on a hunt for those damn mint ones. Thank you for your suggestions yesterday, but unfortunately the Target ones are designed for people without any muscle or an ass and the LOFT ones are too fancy for my super casual office job.  On to the next...

More Colored Pants

For someone who tends to wear a lot of white tees and black tops, colored pants are the only way I'm going to get some variety in my look.  Luckily, colored pants are everywhere and I have officially completed my collection after my neon binge at Target (shorts for $17, how could one resist?).  And it turns out these shoes are my new favorite.  Who knew Marshalls was the shit.

There's just one pair of pants I'm still searching for.  I'm on a mad hunt for mint skinnies that don't cost an arm and a leg. These are things that keep me up at night.

Repeat Offender

For someone who doesn't really like turquoise blouses, this Alternative Apparel tank top is quickly becoming a favorite top of mine. Maybe it's the chevron print, or the light linen fabric, but I'm loving it and trying to find more ways to wear it.

Do you have a favorite top in your closet that you just run to when you need a little pick me up?

Neutral

Something about an all neutral palette just works on a hot summer day.  You can't go wrong with creams, tans and browns. If I learned anything from my Grandmother it's that cream, beige and gold are   a girls best friend.

Hipster

So today I thought I'd be a hipster. No offense to those of you who are, but I am not one. But today I am pretending. I feel very forced to wear my closet and mix things up or else you'd be quite bored with these outfit du jour posts. I'd be wearing shorts and a t-shirt everyday. So for your entertainment, I have to wear this yellow dress I bought at least 4 years ago and wore once to a bachelorette party.  Looks like appropriate office wear don't you think?

Stripes and Florals

Going for prints today and with my tips, you can do the same without looking crazy!

Stripes, polka dots and most animal prints can be used as a neutral.  As long as it isn't in a bright obnoxious color, you're usually pretty safe to use any three as your basic.  Add your next print whether it be floral, gingham or a crazy unique pattern.  Be sure to keep everything in the same color scheme or else you'll be sure to look like a clown.

See exhibit A.  So not a clown, right?

Where I'd Like To Be

Today marks the first day of Summer, which means pool time, margaritas and short shorts.  I'd much rather be sitting by the pool in my favorite Crispy Bikini and brand new floppy hat (can't wait to wear it!) instead of being at the office.  None the less, I'm happy it's officially summer.

Drunken Rainbow

I took a quick photo of this outfit with my iPhone and sent it to my sister for some reassurance that it was a smart purchase.  Her response, "you look like a drunken rainbow".  Not sure if this is a compliment, I do like rainbows and being drunk can be kind of fun sometimes, right? (My Mother is disagreeing right now I assure you).  But maybe she thought I looked stupid.  Either way, I kinda like the look.  What do you think?

Also, this bold bracelet was a gift from April M.  Buy one for yourself, or any of their other great designs using a special coupon code for my readers only.  Get 10% off with MYSTYLE10 at checkout.

Man-Ic Mondays - The Perfect Suit

I fortunately do not have to wear a suit to work, nor does anyone else in my office.  However, at my previous corporate job, there was a pathetic attempt for people to wear suits and look pulled together.  Looking back, I wish I held a seminar to teach them a thing or two on how to look great in a perfectly tailored suit. I think everyone should educate themselves on how to look great in the workplace and GQ is where I like to go to get educated on Men's fashion.

A few things I've learned about suits is it's all about fit, fabric and the finer details.

1. The Jacket - Your suit should fit, not be baggy or loose and should show off your manly physique.  Shoulder seams should line up with your SHOULDERS. It should be fitted and almost keep you standing upright.  If you can pull your arms across you and you don't feel tension, go down a size.  Most men buy the wrong size jacket (funny because most women are wearing the wrong size bra, get a proper fit).

Side vented jackets are a personal favorite of mine.  They scream I'm a sophisticated man with serious style.

A few no fail tips - two buttons are perfect for office and to throw over a pair of jeans for a more business casual look.

Sleeves should be just short enough to show a peek of your button down.  Think of it as the framing of your suit.

2. The Pant - Flat front and a perfect hem will make any man look great.  Puddle your hem and you look sloppy and messy which is definitely not modern.  It will also help you look taller (don't you want to look taller and slimmer? hem your damn pants)

3. Fabric - Do not wear seersucker in December, I beg you.  I hate when people wear the wrong fabrics at the wrong time.  Your timing is everything when it comes to style. Summer time fabrics include cotton and linen, seersucker is great as well as a colored khaki will help spice up your monotone look.  Come winter, store your summer fabrics and whip out the corduroy, flannel and tweed.  This fabric will not only make you look the part, but you won't freeze your ass off while heading to the office or happy hour.

4. The Finer Details - Pull it all together with a pocket square and have fun with it.  Bring out a colored stripe in your shirt, add a fun print to mix it up.  It's small enough to not be distracting, but noticeable enough to make you look smart and stylish when done well. Cuff your pants for a classic tailored look and add a bit of your own style to your cuff links.  And most importantly TAILOR.  Find yourself a great tailor who you can trust. They can make any suit and any man look smart, stylish and modern.

For more info on how to find your best fit, check out this great article/slideshow (pictures are fun aren't they?) over at GQ.

Frugal Fridays And A Winner

Frugal Shades

A must have accessory for Summer, beach or pool is definitely a chic pair of shades.  Spice up your look with different shapes, colors and patterns.  With most of these under $10, you won't break the bank and you'll be sure to look super fabulous.  I'm especially loving the mint and cat eye sunnies.  I may just have to pick these pairs up for myself.
And the moment you've all been waiting for, the Shop Chic Frills giveaway winner is (drum roll please)....

Kelly Massman

 Congrats Kelly, please email me.

Didn't win? That's ok, don't be sad! You can still shop the great finds over at Chic Frills here.

Happy Flag Day

Just a little history lesson for the day.  I didn't know this myself, so a little research had to be done (thanks Google).  It's the anniversary of the adoption of the stars and stripes as the official USA flag.  Happy Birthday stars and stripes.  I'm sure our founding fathers would be proud of this little lady here and her crop top and booty shorts.

Mint Moment

Florals, prints, pleats, mint.... Usually I say take one trend and mix it in, but today I jumped in head first (which is ironic because I really don't know how to dive).  By keeping simple silhouettes and shapes that I like on my body, the pieces will last you longer than the trend itself (usually.... if mint goes out of style next season I'm screwed)

I usually do not condone this sort of behavior, but when it works it works.  So be it.

Golden Girls

One of my all time favorite shows is by far Golden Girls.  Blanche of course being my favorite for her fashionable get ups.  Ever realize that their fashions are strangely back in style? Over sized colorful blazers, floral printed pants and granny  chic jewelry?

This printed maxi dress reminds me of the Miami motif.  I feel so Miami, yet I'm so far away from a beach....

Note to self, get to a beach ASAP.

Colorblocked, Tots and Tequila

Okay, so it may not be as bold as fuchsia and royal blue, but I'm going for the colorblocking trend here.  I also went with the half inch curling iron on the hair for a new curly do.  Not sure how I feel about it, but definitely more fun to wear than straight boring hair.

I wore this outfit to a fun event called Mutts and Martinis.  Any place that allows me to bring my pup Pork with me is cool with me.  And any place that serves tater tots is well, simply perfect.  Something about tater tots that just make me happy, wouldn't you agree?
